What does TNRT stand for? (JUNE 2024 NEWSLETTER)
Musing(s): What does TNRT stand for?
Preparing for a move across Germany has me feeling all the things lately: sadness, hopeful, overwhelm, grateful
(just to name a few I've felt in the last two hours) 😂
but mainly I've been feeling stressed.
It's that type of stress where there is nothing of urgency is in front of me, but when I start to think of all the things that need to be put in place in order for everything else to happen, my brain turns to a 7-11 slurpee 🧠
Last weekend, I made bracelets with a friend while our kiddos ran around in her backyard. Since it's been about 20+ years since I've made a bracelet with letters- I TOOK MY FREAKIN' TIME picking out what mine would say.
I went back and forth between "breathe" and "relax" and "ODAAT" <-
I wanted something that would calm me in the moment,
something that would help me find my footing when I felt like I couldn't.🐾
and then it came to me:
TNRT.
The. Next. Right. Thing.
the other bracelet is courtesy of meatball 👧🏻
I don't know where I first heard this (probably from Glennon Doyle?) but the phrase itself helps ground me when I start thinking of ALL the things that "need" to get done
(and if you HAVE NOT seen Inside Out 2 yet- STOP reading this email and GO SEE IT-STAT! Speaking of Anxiety 😬)
What's beautiful about this phrase, "the next right thing" is that it stops me and helps me notice what is right in front of me-in the moment.
I credit 'noticing' as a key element of how you can improve your relationship with movement.
When I repeat the phrase, I have to pause and truly connect with myself to see what is the next RIGHT thing is-- FOR ME-- in that moment.
The only thing that trips me up about this particular phrase is that in order for something to be RIGHT, there has to be a wrong?...
But when my brain starts to go there, I try and think that "right" is not just one options, but multitudes of options.
And what is "right" for me one day, may change.
The phrase also helps ground me in a way and also reminds me that I can trust myself. (which is something that I'm continually working on)
What does 'the next right thing' mean for you right now?
Do you need stillness? maybe a couple deep breaths, or maybe some movement? (there are FAR too many examples to name- but just something to keep in mind if ya want)
and now...to a NEW thing I'm tryin' out in the newsletter..
Mention(s): Things I'm lovin'
Before I start this kinda new section of my newsletter, I want to say that I don't get paid for saying any of these things.
I wanted a way to share some of the random cool things I'm currently digging 😎
SONG(s): Yet again, here is another song a client introduced me to that I've had on repeat lately.
MIGHT NOT LIKE ME by Brynn Elliot
Keep in mind that my daughter is getting to an age where a 'strong gal jam' is right up her alley, but I can't help but think about how an anthem like like this would have helped me during my middle school years.
and if you happen to be a fly on the wall at our house, chances are you'll see our WHOLE FAMILY singing and dancing wildly to this song!
Sample Lyric: "well if you don't like girls that are stronger/faster/smarter than you...well then you MIGHT NOT LIKE ME!" 🎶
JOURNAL(s): I've been meaning to mention this to you all for quite some time- because working my way through this journal helped me tremendously to get some Zzzz. 😴
It's a 6-week SLEEP journal that was recommended to me by a former client- thanks April!
In the past few years, I've had more and more trouble sleeping. Mainly waking up randomly and not being able to fall back asleep. I worked my way through this journal (documenting time spent awake and being up plus loads of other things) and the concepts continue to help me today.
It helped me set the foundation for my sleep hygiene (that's a thing right?) and I'm pumped to report that I wake up FAR less than I used to.
My main take aways were decreasing the amount of caffeine I have throughout the day, setting a 'wind down' routine and trying to go to bed (and awaken) at the same time each day.
TRAINER: I have been following Emily Decker for over 4 ish years now and her style of training (although I've never trained with her) seems very similar to my approach.
If you have been on my 1:1 waitlist for a while, I know she has some spots open and if you would like to peek at some of here stuff, here are some of my favorite posts of hers.
Possible reasons why you don't want to exercise (and being lazy isn't one)
The many ways (and reasons) walking counts as exercise)
MOVIE: Inside Out 2. Our family went to go see this in theatures last Sunday and we all thought it was incredible. I can't stop thinking about some of the scenes (no spoiler alerts here) but I will say that I *might* have liked it MORE than the first one- which is saying A LOT!
MOVEMENT: and lastly, a movement channel member favorite this month: 20 MINUTE ANYDAY GENTLE MOVEMENT (all standing)
This one was recorded because it's a client favorite for those days when you want a little bit of movement, but you'd like some gentle standing low-impact options
20 MINUTE ALL STANDING GENTLE MOVEMENT
I'd love to know how you liked this one if you tried it out or maybe you'd like to save this video for a rainy day! ☔️
If you like this workout, or the way that I instruct, I have over 500+ non-diet videos on the channel. It's FREE for 30 days and $14.99/month after that.
TAKE ME TO THE MOVEMENT CHANNEL!
you all are the reason I get to continue sharing the 'movement for more' message and I'm so grateful. Thank you.
Until next time,
if you were to make a bracelet with a word or phrase for your today self- what would it say?💎
