Do I strive to be encouraging during class? YES.
đź“Ł
Do I strive to be motivational while I teach? YES.
đź“Ł
Do I make comments about how our bodies are NOT acceptable at this VERY moment and that they need improvement?
NOPE.
NOPE.
NOPE.
-
When a fitness professional makes comments during class such as, “Time to get that bikini body ready” or
“Wave that underarm flab goodbye” or
“You have earned your dinner/dessert tonight Bc of this workout”
-
It sends an underlying messages of “you are NOT enough RIGHT now”
-
Underlying-is an assumption that your body IS NOT okay as it is—(moving in a class)
And
That THE most important thing ABOUT you- is your body- or rather how people PERCEIVE your body.
-
For me, personally- this language is NOT encouraging- it actually is DE-motivating for me.
-
Working out and movement for me, being so much JOY-
I do not want associate movement with punishment for what I am NOW. -
Because it’s NOT!
-
Please do me a favor and question this language in class, or on posters- and DO not question yourself-
The industry relies on your deepest vulnerabilities and insecurities to thrive-
But please remember-
You.
Are.
ENOUGH!
