GROUP INSTRUCTOR TIP #2:
-
The needs of your #students should be met BEFORE your own. -
I teach out of a community center (NOT a gym) so #gym equipment that is usually available to most instructors in a #group setting are NOT to me. Think- weights on the side, a bucket mats and BOSU balls galore.
-
When I #teach, I always bring about 3-4 extra mats for the ending floor series that the class requires. -
These mats are available TO MY STUDENTS FIRST-
and IF there is one left over, then I use it-
but if not, I usually bundle up my overlay pants and shirt for some knee support and sweat on the floor. -
Even at the old #gym I taught at, when the mat series would be about to begin-
I would RUN over to the stack of mats located in the corner and hand them ALL out to every student BEFORE I started the song. -
To me, this exemplifies #leadership and I take my role as a #groupinstructor very seriously (although I laugh & goof around a lot)
-
I’m NOT there to stare at myself in the mirror and show everyone how cool I am.
I am there to INSTRUCT and #EDUCATE my students how to safely and properly perform movements WHILE also being an ‘entertainer’ of sorts.
-
I am there to #SERVE my students, they are NOT there to SERVE me and I’m extremely #grateful for each and every one of them.
