When we first met, there were a couple things I told him I would never do. -
•I would NEVER get married in Oklahoma. •I would NEVER get married in a courthouse. •I will NEVER be so idiotic as to get married on a lunch break. -
(I said these things, because all are semi-common in the army) -
And guess who did all three?
🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😎
-
One of my favorite things about the courthouse wedding was what I wore and why. -
My good friend Let me borrow a white dress to make the day special. -
In true Oklahoma fashion it was cold and windy that day and when Nick asked if he could bring anything when we were meeting at the courthouse, I asked him to bring the white dress that I had left at home.
-
He asked me why? -
I said “this needs to be special. I need to wear a white dress.”
-
What he said back to me will forever be ingrained in my mind.
-
“Jamie, you and I both know the last thing you want to wear is a dress—EVER!
Please don’t do this for me. I don’t care what you wear.”
-
He knew he was right, and I knew he was right. I was so nervous, and this helped me make the decision more clear.
Character defining moments (like this one) put me at ease.
-
We are two imperfect people- And we have been through some spectacular (and hellacious) times as a couple. -
It is my hope that we continue to grow and learn from and about each other more —learn to forgive more often, grow from each experience—and never forget that although imperfect- We both try the best that we can, with what we are given.
-
Happy anniversary Nick- thanks for knowing I didn’t want to wear the dress that day- (or really ever) 😂
