Productivity is an interesting thing. -
“Are you being productive?” “How do you define being productive?”
“How is productivity DEFINED?”
“How has the definition of productivity changed over time”
-
When I worked in the skilled nursing facility,
productivity was a number- a percentage.
So, at the end of the day-your work day was defined (as a PTA) by a number.
70% productive, 80% - 90% etc.
It was two numbers the your total time spent WITH patients’ administering care divided by your TOTAL time spent at work.
-
Work has us define it by a specific product,
say--money made, crop produced, numbers computed.
-
This pondering came to mind two days ago when I was contemplating doing a puzzle while my toddler napped.
My initial thought, “a puzzle? That’s NOT productive- you should be taking your CEUs, or writing thank you cards or whatever other “productive/to-do list” thing you wrote on your surgery list…
Then, my next thought (yep, i’m that person that talks a lot in my mind)
I think…
WHO or WHAT is behind this thinking that ‘doing a puzzle’ is NOT productive?
AND that I SHOULD be producing something every second of every day?
-
I have to remind myself that my most insightful moments come from stillness-
My innermost feelings are often felt in the quiet-
And my deepest prayers in the corner of my unlit closet. -
This is your reminder today that questioning your ‘never good enough’ thoughts as well as your ‘go big or go home’ mentality is normal (BAH! But don’t take it from me- b/c I’m about as normal as a polar bear riding a tricycle on 5th ave.)- But seriously. Stay curious
