In this edition of “why Jamie is not your average trainer” let me give you reason number 89.
I tell my clients to eat Halloween candy.
•
Let me set up some context before the fitness industry bans me from using their hashtags- 😂😂🤦🏻♀️
My client told me that she was a little nervous about tonight- feeling that she wouldn’t be able to resist the bowl sitting on the table in between doorbell rings- and what came next was probably a little unexpected.
•
“Chew gum- drink water- pinch yourself, find ways to RESIST THE URGE!”
•••
BAH!
Yeah right- I’m kidding.
But that might have been what she was expecting to hear from me...
•
I told her to eat it.
I told her to not to make candy the enemy and after repeating “this is going to sound hippy Dippy” About 1000 times,
I told her to put the candy on a plate-
sit down at the table with it.
unwrap the candy slowly.
maybe even take out a knife and fork?
Explore the sensation prior to eating it.
the smell-the touch.
The look of it-maybe it was cracked in its package-
Or a runt that came from the factory?
As you take the first bite noticed the flavors.
Is it gummy? Does it stick to your teeth? Was it flaky? salty? does it go down in 2 to 3 bites or does it take a while to chew?
-
What about the Intensity of the taste? Is it intensified in the first bite or the third bite?
-
You see where I’m going with this?
But I never tell her to resist. I tell her to observe and remain curious/ nonjudgmental about it.
-
There’s SO much that were missing with food when it becomes something that is forbidden, something that we have to hide in the closet and eat in shame-so no one else will see us.
-
We’re missing the connection with family with friends the joy of holidays and hearing children in the streets. were missing the wonderful role it plays, not only in our life- but on our palate.
