When they say “you’re not doing it right”

The other day a client told me that she was watching a fitness video and the instructor yelled at everyone while doing air squats...

“IF YOU’RE NOT DOING IT THIS WAY, YOU’RE NOT DOING IT RIGHT.”
-
After I took a few calming breaths, I replied to the client saying-

“Were they meaning your form was off?”
***KNOWING this was NOT what the instructor meant***

Or did she mean you’re doing jumping jacks and...
they wanted you to do squats?
OR…

Was they saying-
📣You’re not going LOW enough!

📣You’re not working FAST enough,
📣 You’re not (insert whatever bull here) “ENOUGH”

in order for it to BURN BURN BURN?

One thing I like to prepare my clients for is ‘comebacks’
for when this type of encounter happens:

And here’s what you can politely say to the person yelling that to you on camera who has no idea WHAT you’re feeling at WHAT depth.

1️⃣Are you referring to my form? (*checks form)

2️⃣Are you aware of my capabilities today? (ie. I am not able to get down on the ground like that- so I have to chose something another option)

3️⃣Are you referring to shaming gym culture tactics? Because if that’s the case-
Your reply can be-

“not everyone is here to burn, torch & tone-
I’m here for patience, I’m here to get an hour away I’m here for (insert your why)- Please don’t assume you know what my goals are without asking me- I move for MORE.”
