I’ll never forget reading this quote on a starbucks cup about a decade ago.
I wrote it down in my journal knowing that I would reference it someday. “Do not kiss your children so they will kiss you back, but so they will kiss their children, and their children’s children.” I keep telling myself that I could say one million things to her- tell her how to behave and how to act right and how to be a lady. (<---did you all just spit out your drink?) hahahahhaha!
A LADY! YEAH RIGHT…

BUT the things she’s going to LEARN are the things that I SHOW her, the things that I DO.
So when I tell her, → “we don’t call our friends names” & then she hears me call the person who cut me off in traffic a “FART HEAD JERK” ---> she must think, ‘that’s kinda odd mom’

Or when I tell her, “you have to wait patiently for your food while it heats up”
and then I ACT SOOOOO annoyed in the check-out line at the grocery store when the little old lady has to count her coins and I HAVE TO BE PATIENT.
Again, she must think, “hmmmm...that’s odd too.” Throughout her life, she will most likely hear me spout off the same lessons to her day and and day out-
But the words that will speak the loudest to her-
are MY ACTIONS.
She will internalize the way I treat others, the way I go about life, the way I react to challenges and most importantly-
the way I treat myself.
I’ve never been so pushed to become a better person- a better version of myself-
Than I have been since becoming your mother.

I wrote this piece about a year ago, but I come back to it often. ❤️
