Since I was little, I have loved a stage.
-
I was in a drama club/group in third grade- LOVED it- and auditioned for a “big Time guy” in our little city.
-
I remember singing “if I were a rich man” from peddler On the roof- and secretly thinking I had NAILED the audition. -
Yes, I was 7 or 8 😂
-
Fast forward- I didn’t nail it.
I didn’t land the lead roll (or any roll) in the secret garden that year.
-
And in my mind- my “acting” career was over. Yup, tried and got rejected- so turning over that leaf.
-
What I didn’t know (makes sense at that age) was that-
With anything you “want”—
Comes failure after failure after rejection after rejection.
-
I had NO clue that, yeah- maybe he didn’t like me- but MAYBE other people would?
-
And that’s where I find myself now, teaching group fitness- I am an entertainer. I love interacting with my students (my audience) and making jokes throughout (comedian)
-
My stage is different- and now I know that rejection is a KNOWN-
Since starting this business—let downs, rejections and failure are PART of the game!
-
So what’s different almost 30 years later?
-
I don’t take rejection as a dig ON me-
Maybe THAT person, or that gym, or that friend didn’t like me-
But that’s literally one out of billions of people-
-
So I’ll continue to keep doing what I’m doing- spreading the message that YOU, that ME - that WE are so much more that a body-
and that movement should not be a form of punishment for something you ate-
Movement is meant to be enjoyed by all—no matter what their last meal was!
