I travelled to my hometown this past week and had a blast. Traveling to where you grew up often seems like stepping into a time machine-
Things change, stores are closed and new stores are in its spot-
And one thing that caught my eye in my fathers’ garage was an award I won in college- “Most inspirational”
-
To be honest, that was usually the award I received- never the MVP- but always the one who would chant songs, or encourage. -
I remember thinking about how insignificant I felt when I got it- (which looking back on it) I shouldn’t have been-
But I wanted so badly to ‘just once’ be the star. -
As I’m learning to grow and settle into my strengths, I was able to look at this award through a different lens.
Not only did my peers vote for me-
But I truly do believe that it was a great award for me to have received.
I LOVED (and still do) lifting others’ up-
Seeing others’ successes and cheering them on- is one of my favorite things!
-
I brought these two women up on stage b/c they never missed a class and knew the choreo better than I did-
They lit up the class with their passion and I loved it.
As I head to the park tonight to teach Zumba, I am reminded that success lies in how many people you lift up-
How many peoples’ lives are improved by crossing paths with yours—that is my definition.
