Apparently beating yourself up, doesn’t make you stronger.

One of the quotes my mom used to say to me *almost* everyday growing up was:
"Jamie, don't be so hard on yourself"

this is one lesson that I continually come back to over time.
For whatever reason, I used to think that beating myself up, made me faster/harder/stronger?
(cue Daft Punk song)

But now, I'm quite used to (and enjoying)
my softness & embracing the slowness that life brings.

As I was watching a slug meander across our footpath yesterday,
I said to myself "wow- you sure are beautiful"
and this sentence was quickly followed by a smile.

if I could tell my past self:
"in 20 years, you'll stop and marvel at the beauty of a slug"
I hope that person would have appreciated how far I've come in self compassion.

I'm happy to report that although it's a continual journey,
my mom hasn't needed to say that phrase to me in a while. ;)
what is something your past self would be shocked to know about your now self?
